Open Question: I need a bigger purpose in life than just myself?
I cant live just for the sake of enjoying my life this world, making the best of it and striving for personal advancement. Its just not enough for me. I was never in that mode and i dont think i ever will be. Its just too unmeaningful to me. How can one spend 60-70 years just invested in oneself and own wel-being. I feel like i have to do or be part of something BIG, and make an impact on others. Im very smart and wise. I dunno if im searching for enlightment or something like that. For the past few years ive just floated through life not really knowing what i want. But now that i think about it, it’s not really like what everybody else wants. Like a succesful career, fulfilling friendships, worldly pleasures and enjoyment, recognition, etc. I want some purpose that will make me want to jump out of bed every morning. Im 19 years old. And already bored with life.
Open Question: My girlfriend was victimized in a war. I don’t know what happened and it bothers me. Any advice?
My girlfriend was caught in a war in Africa and she said that her family was terrorized. I am curious to know what exactly happened but I don’t want to be nosy and ask too many questions. I respect her freedom to tell me what she what she wants, or to keep things to herself. She tells me that she is “over it”, so I accept that and I think that she is fine with whatever happened, by that I mean that she doesn’t need my support or anything in regards to the war she was caught in. I’ve told her that if she ever wants to talk about it, I am here for her. I think that I’ve done my part to reach out to her so as far as I am concerned I think that she is fine on her side.
But even though I wasn’t the person in the war, I feel traumatized in a way by not knowing about major events in the life of the person I love and have spent 2 1/2 years with. My girlfriend telling me that she was terrorized in a war and having no idea of what happened eats away at me a little bit.
I am not trying to claim her pain. It didn’t happen to me. I just think it can be hard sometimes if you are investing so much love and time and effort into someone and you feel like there are major events in their life that made them who they are that you are totally ignorant about.
I have personal issues, like everybody. I told my girlfriend about my issues in the past, and present. One of the reasons I did this is because I want her to know about me, so that she knows who she is dealing with. Some things about my family were very difficult for me to tell her but I did it anyways… I didn’t think it would be fair to be with her for years and years for her to only then, find out, that my mother was an alocholic, for example. That fact did have an influence on who I am and for someone to know me and understand me well, they would need to know about that in my opinion.
That’s how I look at boyfriends/girlfriend sharing these type of life changing experiences with each other and I respect that she has a different approach.
Still at the end of the day, I feel uncomfortable not knowing what happened to my girlfriend in the war and what impact it had on her life.
I asked her once about the war, here’s how the conversation went.
“So what happened in the war?”
“My family was terrorized?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Why do you want to know?”
“I’m curious, I feel like there are some things about you that I don’t know. I care about you and I want to know about you. If you ever want to talk about it, I am here to talk with you. I don’t want you to feel like there is a wall up between us.”
“Ok.” ~Silence~
And that was the end of the conversation.
You guys have any suggestions of ways that I can deal with this situation so that I feel comfortable and at peace?
Open Question: What are the best ways to get initial seed investments for a website concept that I have?
I have a really good idea for a website, that has not yet been made by anybody else. I have no personal finances to invest in it myself. I have a great concept, and potential to make tons of money, I just don’t know how to get it off of the ground. I have no programming skills, but have the basic layout and functions already mapped out and could have a web developer make it functional. It’s a really great opportunity, that I’d want come to life. I just need an investor who would sit down and listen to my pitch.
